This question and the response, and the subsequent removal of the original clip by YouTube, fueled by FOX’s editing that removed the segment from their re-broadcast has engendered a lot of fiery resolve. As of this writing, there are 50 copies of this movie posted to YouTube (one of which is mine

“Why shouldn’t we be defending civil liberties?”
Well, since nineleven the Feds have been at war against civil liberties. I would’ve expected Mr Paul to have gotten that memo. Next thing you know, he’ll be fucking up the cover page on his TPS reports. Someone like that is definitely not electable.

I think Ron Paul is well aware that the Federal Government has been at war against civil liberties, hence the question, “Why shouldn’t we be defending” them?
Did you see anyone jumping out of buildings, Frank? I know I’ve mentioned losing a co-worker and teammate that morning, as well as an old friend and hearing first hand from someone who managed to get out alive. I’d like you to share similar stories.
I think that’s important, because even when you tally all of this up, it is not justification for the systematic erosion of America. I think that there is abundant evidence that all of the information was available - and summarily dismissed - before the 9/11 attacks. Information in the hands of our CIA and FBI; red flags raised by normal every-day Americans like you and me, too. And all of it gathered without AT&T recording my telephone calls and Carnivore routing my data into some huge database. I’m sure this is a trend that will continue when we get our National ID cards.
Do you know how easy it is to get on the terrorist watch list? Do you know how hard it is to get off that list?
Our news is already chewed and digested for us before we even get to hear it; this is why you don’t see casket photos from Iraq on TV. This is also why we don’t hear how many ordinary people like you and me are getting shafted by these policies that ‘protect’ us. This, I would argue, is a large part of the motivation behind those who would regulate the Internet - they want control over our information.
Maybe these policies and trends make you feel more comfortable, but I think we’re getting the smelly end of the stick.
I think that we were attacked because of our foreign policy and our interference in foreign governments. I think the attacks would stop if we reject the policy of world-manipulation. While all of the foreign interference is carried out in the name of securing ‘American Interests’ abroad, only a handful of corporations profit. But they want the charade to continue, so they push fear down our throat, and through this, they control us.

Don’t sugar-coat it like that Dave. Just tell us what you think.
And Frank, that was a snot-nosed reply to a reasonable opinion. lol!

Yeah, I kinda get up on the soap box. Look- remember when the dude was shooting from his car trunk and everyone thought it was terrorists? I admit, I hid behind the pump when I was pumping my gas. Remember when the post offices were full of anthrax? I held my breath when I looked over the mail. I wouldn’t go to the state fair, even, for fear of being blown up. We were a nation terrified, and that was no mistake - they kept telling us to be.
But then the whole thing shifted from Afghanistan to Iraq. I’m thinking, Jeez, the Iraqis are terrorists too? How convenient. But then that turns out to be a lie. There’s no connection with 9/11. None. There are no WMDs. None. How can we afford to lose focus on the most important threat - terrorism? What is this president thinking? He must know something I don’t.
So then I’m looking at the towers tragedy again. Yes, terrorists flew planes into the towers. They did. They blew a truck up in the parking garage a few years earlier, too. But even the staunches anti-conspiracist out there has to admit that there is something fishy about the whole mess.
Our government is lying about something again, or there’s something they aren’t telling us. Why so many Saudis? Where’s the money trail lead to? Why didn’t they act on the intelligence they had in abundance? Why no tapes that show the plane hitting the Pentagon? Why no significant wreckage from the Pentagon or Flight 93? That’s just too weird. Too weird. If that happened outside of the context of 9/11 people would be freaked: Plane Crashes, Wreckage Not To Be Found! Aliens?
I don’t trust our government, and that’s worse than fearing the terrorists. Bin Laden told us plainly what the CIA and 9/11 commission confirmed: the attacks were motivated by our foreign policy and interference in the middle east. That is the cause of 9/11.
Review of our ‘involvements’ there and around the world leaves me kind of uncomfortable about our role in these things. Should we be proud that we armed Bin Laden? Helped Musharraf overthrow a democracy? Supported then vilified Hussein? What exactly is the American message? Now it’s Iran’s fault?
By my reasoning, the best defense against terrorism isn’t military, it’s civility. I think we should leave people alone. We can’t afford to continue with our military presence around the world anyway - unless of course we were to seize the assets of the regions we’re involved with. That’s not the America that I believe in, and I don’t think most people want us to become that. A few do. In any case, that seems to be where we’re headed.
