Check out the way West Virginia conducted its Republican Primary. No general voting, instead delegates that were either elected or appointed by County Conventions were sent to Charleston to vote. Can you say good old boy system? While I am not a registered Republican, I was supprised to find out that if I was the voting window for selecting delegates from Mineral County where I live was 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm on Jan 12. It sounds to me like the selection was some what rigged by Republican party apparatus… I mean everyone knows everyone in these WVA small towns, so by appointing delegates (or through these small town elections of delegates) the party apparatus gets to pick who will get the most votes at the State Convention. I have heard that this is the last time things will be done this way, but still… I can’t help but think that in a general primary election Huckabee would not have won the state.

…In an agreement first reported by West Virginia television station WSAZ, three Ron Paul delegates were secured through an agreement with the Mike Huckabee campaign at the West Virginia state convention early Tuesday. Ron Paul delegates to the state convention swung their sizable support to Huckabee – putting Huckabee over the top – in exchange for the delegates.
