clevermonkey blog » Savvy McCain

Consider this, from Reuters: “Presidential candidate John McCain ordered most of the Republican convention’s activities suspended for Monday, the first day of the gathering, as Hurricane Gustav bears down on the U.S. Gulf Coast.”

What influence does the Republican Convention agenda have on the weather?

Dumb ass.

I think he doesn’t want to use resources on the convention that could be better used to help the hurricane victims.
While McCain can not directly control the path of Hurricanes, he can control the direction of their rotation: http://www.ems.psu.edu/~fraser/Bad/BadCoriolis.html

  2. Dave says:

    Resources my butt. He’s posturing.

“We don’t want to appear in any way festive when you have that kind of tragedy possibly revisiting itself on the city of New Orleans and areas around it,” he said.

You’d stand funny too, if you were hung from your arms (backwards) for a while…

  4. Justin says:

It’s simple, and not all that sinister, if you ask me.

The Republicans know that the government’s response to Katrina 3 years ago was a botch, and that the Democrats had a home-run convention last week. They can’t afford to have their convention upstaged by a hurricane that not only steals their headlines, but reminds everyone of how incompetent they are, let alone have it happen on the same day that the President who’s responsible for these giant fuck-ups gives the keynote speech.

So it’s less about being festive during a tragedy, and more about media attention and eyeballs, but I understand why they’re doing it, and I don’t blame them.

The much weirder thing is how McCain picked a batshit-crazy family-values creationist running mate with a whore for a daughter.

  5. Mr. Nibbles says:

Just because George Bush is an douche-bag doesn’t make every Republican a douche-bag.

  6. Mr. Nibbles says:

I suppose I’ll have to concede that all Democrats don’t follow Jimmy Carter’s economic playbook.
I wonder what Clinton did that strengthened our economy.

  8. Pete says:

Has anyone been following the story of Trig, Palins fifth child. There is a lot of speculation that it’s not her child, but her daughters. Not that I give a furry rats ass who the mother is, but I do care if she’s a fucking liar.

  9. Mr. Nibbles says:

    Who da baby Mama?

  10. Justin says:

Trig is absolutely NOT Sarah Palin’s son. The 16-year-old was pregnant with him, delivered him in secret, and the family is covering it up.

I agree with Pete — I don’t care whether the daughter is a slut. What I do care about is the cover-up and what it says about “family values” and abstinence-only education.

Or, if it’s not true and Trig really is Sarah’s son, I care about a 44-year-old woman, 8-months pregnant with a developmentally disabled child, choosing to give a speech AFTER HER WATER BREAKS, then flying all the way from there to Podunk Alaska, to have the child. That’s the essence of poor judgment: she was risking the life of her baby AND herself by doing that, not to mention the future welfare of her other 4 children. And that’s if we ignore the fact that no obstetrician in the country would’ve even let her get on the plane to Texas in the first place with a high-risk pregnancy that was that far along. So much for “choosing life.”

So take your pick. Either she’s a liar and a hypocrite, or she’s someone who recklessly endangers the well-being of herself and her own family to give a speech.

Like Obama said, kids are off-limits. What’s not off-limits is the judgment of the candidate.

  11. Dave says:

Ron Paul’s an obstetrician, and he would’ve let her get on the plane - though he might have cautioned her against it.

That’s her decision to make. It’s a matter of personal liberty.

  12. Pete says:

Given all the “facts” I sincerely doubt Dr. Paul would of let her fly.

  13. Dave says:

Oh, well, I didn’t take any “facts” into account, so that explains it. That, and I was making a joke. Still, in the spirit of the proposition, Ron Paul doesn’t seem to be very authoritarian. “Liberty” and all that.

But if you are *truly* sincere in your doubts after taking *all* of the “facts” into consideration, then clearly I must of made a mistake in my thinking. (sic)

I concede it must be obvious: there’s no way that Dr. Paul would have let her fly. At least not unless her bill were paid in full. Alaska’s a long way off… :)

  14. Justin says:

Joking aside, you’re right — it is the patients decision. I didn’t mean to imply that her obstetrician is authoritarian; only that Sarah Palin is either a liar or appallingly reckless.

Seriousness aside, the invocation of Ron Paul cracks me up.

  15. Pete says:

So I watched some of the RNC (Of course Ron Paul is not allowed to speak) mainly the Palin part and of course she dropped the God bomb a few times, because we all know that if you’re not a good Christian than you cannot possibly be a good President. (Even if you’re sucking Israels dick while saying the Lords Prayer)

There’s a link so you can donate to McBush Frank :)

I did not hear anything about the economic mess our country is in, not that I expected to. On that note the debates will prove interesting if they can talk about the REAL issues. Of course we know that gay marriage and abortion are pressing issues for our safety and financial well being.

So then, fucktard drag queen lispy four eyed RonPaul thrashed me and I had to quit Guliani takes the stage. After some of the most severe projectile vomiting ever recorded I found out that he is going on some kind campaign to discredit Obama. At least they picked the stupidest one in the bunch for this task.
This was on the MSNBC homepage but then it was gone.

Now I know that Obama is just another politician shoveling bullshit just as fast as the other guy, but his lack of Washington experience might be a good thing. Hell, if does what he said and actually talks to countries like Iran and Cuba for example, he will get some respect from me.

And before anyone feels they have to point it out to me, I know that Obama/Biden have a star of david tattooed aroun their assholes.

BTW yes i am pretty pissed off at everything, maybe I’ll move to Russia, lots of hot chicks there.

  21. Justin says:

I need to ask an honest question.

Why is it that several people around here are so wrapped around the axle about our relationship with Israel? I mean, why, specifically? The Israel/Palestine issue has always seemed really murky and complex to me, and I’ve heard pro-Israel positions ranging from “we need to protect them or someone will kill all the Jews again” to “God says it’s their land”, and anti-Israel positions from something about water rights to “they stole the land in the first place, and we’re still pissed about it.”

The point is that it’s never been real clear to me what the real issues are that are at play, and I think it’s different for different people. My mind is really pretty open about it, and our approach to Israel really doesn’t influence my vote at all. Should it? Why?

  22. Dave says:

Click the little ‘e’ after the timestamp to edit comments. Yeah, it’s a bug and should say ‘edit’.

  23. Pete says:

Well, I could go on for hours about Israel, but to keep it brief I don’t like the way they control our foreign policy.

Israel has been expanding their borders into Palestine and killing civilians pretty much since they were established.

They are pushing us real hard to go after Iranian “nuclear weapons” when in fact Iran signed the NPT and Israel has not. Iran is building power stations not weapons. Just because Israel has a secret weapons lab under one of their reactors does not mean Iran does. The fact that we continue to support a country that is committing genocide and refuses to play by the rules should be enough reason not to trust them.

If they get their way and Iran is attacked it really could be the beginning of WW III.

Pretty much every candidate has sworn allegiance to AIPAC so I guess it should not influence your vote.

  24. Mr. Nibbles says:

Pete, are you generally happy or unhappy?
If the latter is true, who is responsible?

  25. Justin says:

    Pete,

Thanks. Now I have some follow-ups (and if you don’t want to waste our time going on about this that’s cool — I’m really not concern trolling here, it’s just that I’m trying to figure out what people believe and why they believe it).

You said: “Israel has been expanding their borders into Palestine and killing civilians pretty much since they were established.” But isn’t that true the other way, too? There have been plenty of suicide bombing committed by Palestinians in Israel and plenty of attacks on Israeli settlers, and those have gone on for decades. People make the case that it’s OK for Israel to fire rockets or send tanks into Palestine because she has to defend herself. Are they wrong?

You said that Israel is “committing genocide.” That’s a pretty serious charge. Do you seriously mean it? What racial or ethnic group are they trying to _exterminate_? When I think of genocide, I think of Rwanda. Is it that bad in Palestine?

Francis A. Boyle feels there’s enough of a case to sue Israel for Genocide in the International Court of Justice. Read more here.

    For Clarity:
Article II of the 1948 Genocide Convention defines the international crime of genocide as follows:

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group as such:

    (a) Killing members of the group;

    (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

    (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

    (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within a group;

    (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

    Dutch intel…

  29. Pete says:

    First to answer Mr. Nibbler…

Dave, thanks for putting up the info. To answer Justin, yes the Palestinians attack Israel all the time, but what would we do if say Mexico kept bulldozing our houses and destroying olive trees. Right now the people of Gaza are pretty much cut off from food, medicine and power. The living conditions are worse than Bitburg (okay I don’t know if that’s true) all because Hammas won the DEMOCRATIC elections.

This story was written by an Iraqi jew, he was there for the beginning of Israel. I seriously urge you to at least read a few pages.

Also go back a page or two and watch some of the video I posted under “might have to convert” at least watch the part about the USS Liberty. It’s close to the beginning.

I don’t have anything against the Jewish people, they’re fine, especially with some BBQ. Just kidding folks ;)
