And did anyone ever get the feeling that Symantic (Nortons) might be creating virus’s to protect us from them at $50.00 a year?

No corporation would ever dream of such a thing.

I’m running Avira (free).
I get an occasional advertisement window after it updates itself, but never while I’m working.
It’s also not a memory hog (like Norton).
Corporations are only as honest as the people that run them are.
Pete and John should stop thinking of corporations as headless machines and starting thinking of them as a person or group of people using the organization called a “corporation” as a way to do business. The board of directors has a statutory obligation to (legally) maximize the price of their stock.
Your comments would make more sense if you said “Did anyone ever get the feeling that the CEO of Symantec has people working on creating and distributing viruses?” or “No person would ever dream of such a thing.”
It’s that human condition thingie.
On a side note, do you think I’ve spent too much time in academia? (Cut and paste this post in Word to find the split infinitive).

Mr. Nipples, Hi!
Maybe a sense of humor is some kind of “human condition thingie” also. My response to Dave’s posting of the Snopes comic was an attempt to replicate the kind of “Catch 22″ situation of a business that would help you because they hurt you as a business plan. I’m happy with Symantec. Never gotten a virus. It was just a joke.
I have no control over what Pete might or might not post in response to my comment. When I read Pete’s comment I saw it as an attempt at dry sarcasm and I chuckled because I realized he was making a joke also.
It’s my feeling that when you read both comments you did not see them as humor but instead saw them as
anti-corporate exclamations. So you then proceeded to to “educate” me and Pete about what a corporation is. That was a bit condescending. And I have the impression that even if I took your suggestion and I instead wrote:
“Did anyone ever get the feeling that the CEO of Symantec has people working on creating and distributing viruses?”
-You would still find a way to to play devil’s advocate and have a problem with that statement as well.
I work at a corporation. And I like my job. They treat me fairly and give me raises and good benefits.
I have no problem with responsible corporations that produce products for people. I’m a fan of better technology and safer products. I’d love a stronger U.S economy. It’s good for all of us. Of course.
Respectfully, Mr. Nipples,
When I respond to a blog post in the future, I’ll make sure to include a little “:)” after my comment so that it can be taken as a joke instead of an extreme left-wing political posture that needs to be corrected by you.
On a side note, I think you’ve spent too much time in Macademia! :):):)
Notice the smiley faces on that previous line. It indicates a JOKE.

Aren’t we asking, “Who Watches the Watchmen”? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Yeah.
I know that my comment was snotty. (Actually, I thought I deleted that comment before anyone could read it).
I think everyone (including myself) suspects that anti-virus software companies are the main creators of viruses.
I know Pete was joking too.
Who said “dor?”
