clevermonkey blog » Sorry this isn’t funny.

I just came across this bit of information and frankly it pissed me off. Why did we elect Democrats for congress if they won’t stop the wars and stop wasting all our money!

Actually, I disagree with you Pete. Having a vested interest in generations of the future, I support the idea that our generation needs to stop here and take responsibility for the ill-conceived actions of the current government.

Whatever part we played in bringing them into office or not, they’re our government, and we have to own that. If they’re a corrupt and immoral government, we have to take responsibility that we allowed the system to become one that would allow for it. If preceding generations are to blame, it doesn’t change the fact that we’re responsible now, and would be guilty of passing the buck if we didn’t take accountability - now.

This war is hugely expensive; we all know that. The people fighting the war aren’t to be blamed or shortchanged whether or not they should be there. They are there, and we must take care of them. The costs will continue to be huge.

It’s bad enough that the moral and political costs of the war will reach far into the future; if we don’t begin now to reduce the debt we’ve allowed to be heaped on us, I worry about the long-term sustainability of the country.

You know that the recent federal rate cuts have had the effect of rallying Wall Street. You know, too, that the value of the precious few dollars most middle and lower class households have been able to put away is evaporating before their eyes.

The fact that we’ve got a service economy doesn’t position us well, either. Do you know many people who put their pedicures as the top priority when baby runs out of diapers? Actually, don’t answer that. There are probably far too many people who would, and that is a big part of the problem, too.

    Pete,
I agree with Dave and would like to add that Democrats do have a majority now in the ‘House’ at least but the Senate is split. 67 votes would stop a veto
from the chimp but the repugs are not going to suddenly have a conscience
and do the right thing. So we’re still stuck because of THEIR stonewalling.
Stop blaming Dems so much. Everyone is frustrated about this disgusting
illegal war and occupation. While I agree that Republicans and Democrats
do sometimes act like two sides of a coin. You seem to be too quick to blame the Dem side usually.
The idea of a tax is to wake people up to the fact that the war is an issue that
people should feel and not forget about. Kinda like a draft.
People are asleep and need to be woken up instead of sedated into thinking that a troop-loop magnet on their car is actually supporting
    our men and women there.
Were is our sacrifice like in WW2? Where are the War Bonds, victory gardens and scrap metal drives? Why are we borrowing from China?
The Dems are taking a risk here. Of course the rethugs will scream about
Dems raising taxes and the mental midgets will howl, as usual.
They Dems know this but still are keeping this issue alive by asking
the brain-dead to contribute. It’s better than a tax cut during a time of war isn’t it? But no president would go that far…. Would he?
    JC
